Class Experience

US Grade 6
Welcome to 1-on-1 6th Grade Science! I am so excited to help you discover the fun and wonder of science! In this course we will cover physical science and prepare you for future science courses.

Class Topics
In this semester class we will cover the following topics:
- Light and Matter
- Thermal Energy
- Weather
- Climate
- The Water Cycle

Class Structure
This course has three units that each begin with a 'phenomenon' or a mystery that students will be able to solve at the end of the unit based on the experiences throughout the unit.

Class Experience
Lessons have a minimal amount of direct instruction, with the majority of the time consisting of investigations, games, discussions, explorations, and more.

Teaching Style
My passion is to make science fun, but also to help students gain vital skills that will provide a base for their future science learning. I like to provide experiences for my students where they discover the learning and I guide them towards the correct concepts. This allows them to gain ownership over their own learning and confidence in acquiring knowledge and skill.
Learning Goals
I can develop and use a model to describe that waves are reflected, absorbed, or transmitted through various materials (NGSS MS-PS4-2).
I can gather and synthesize information that sensory receptors respond to stimuli by sending messages to the brain for immediate behavior or storage as memories (NGSS MS-LS1-8).
