1-on-1 30 Minutes Public Speaking/Confident Communication Skills (Poetry/Poems)
Class experience
Beginner - Advanced Level
Do you want to prepare a poem for a competition, talent show, or festival? or start to build your public speaking skills and confidence using poems? This 1:1 class can be adapted, tailored, and personalised to address the specific areas your learner wants/needs to concentrate on. Each week we will focus on a different technique- Week 1- Use of pace (when to speed up and slow down lines in the poem to make it sound more interesting), Week 2- Use of pitch (when to use lower and higher pitch...
No matter what level of public speaking your learner has, this class will teach them techniques to improve and develop in confidence.
I am a fully qualified teacher (BAPA, PGCE) with 16+ years of experience teaching English and Drama (and some Music, and PSHCE) to 11 to 16 year olds in bricks and mortar schools, where I currently still teach part-time, including running small group and 1:1 confidence-building workshops. I also have many years of experience leading community workshop schemes (like create a play in a week) and local drama groups for ages 4 to 16. As a professional actress, I've performed to children from ages 2-14 in theatres, arts centres, social clubs, historical properties, nurseries, and schools. Playing roles such as the Gingerbread man and a tortoise, to a wartime headmistress and Queen Elizabeth the first! With lots of Q & A and interactive workshops along the way. I then branched into presenting (live, events, radio, some TV, and for holiday companies across Europe) including some Voiceover work. I currently create and present drama and presenter tuition videos and have a regular podcast. I have produced and directed many productions (musicals and plays) as well, including some I have written myself. I am very experienced in coaching learners to produce their best, and I love seeing them develop in front of my eyes. Many of my ex-students have gone on to study at prestigious London stage schools in acting and directing, even though we are over 200 miles away, and they only take a small number from out of the catchment area each year. I have also coached learners on all different levels, like one who didn't wish to speak when I started working with him (aged 10) but he ended up playing the lead role in his final year production (aged 15).

Grades Offered
Learners will need to be able to comfortably read a whole poem to be able to apply public speaking techniques. I am happy to help with the pronunciation of difficult words and explain new vocabulary though.
Mrs. T will share her screen if learners are working on a published poem or they can provide Mrs. T with a copy of a poem they want to work on and any rules/terms for the competition, festival, or talent show they wish to take part in.
