US Grade 11 - 12
Beginner Level
In this course we will cover the basics of matrix math (system of linear equations or matrices). This course will cover about 1/2 of the content in a first year Linear Algebra college course in an Engineering program. Students entering a STEM college program will benefit from taking this course! It will equip students with strong foundations required to tackle first year of college. This course assumes knowledge of basic algebra including linear equations, and isolating for variables (11th grade level). We will cover the following topics: - Recap of linear equations - Recap of solving systems of linear equations (substitution and elimination) - Intro to matrices - Converting a system of equations to a matrix form - Matrix operations (adding, subtracting, multiplication) - Matrix inverse - Isolating for variables involving matrices - Row reduction (known as Gaussian Elimination) - Solutions to systems of equations (one solution, infinite solutions, no solutions) - Matrix transpose and trace - Special matrices (diagonal, triangular) - Calculating inverses - Calculating determinates - Using Cramer's Rule to solve matrices - Applications of matrices (real world examples) Each class will include: * 5 - 10 minute recap/homework review/questions * 30 minute interactive lecture where students will learn the concepts * 15 - 20 minute of working time Students may complete classwork as homework for extra practice but this is not mandatory. The class will include a combination of PowerPoint plus interactive whiteboard work using delivered over Zoom. Students are expected to participate throughout the class by asking questions, taking notes, and solving questions independently!

Hey! I'm Gabe. Your math and coding teacher!
I've been teaching and tutoring STEM courses for over 15 years working with students who are failing their class all the way to those trying to get into competitive schools for college/university.
My philosophy behind teaching is to first make sure you understand the fundamentals. Then, practice practice practice. But specifically, practice the right questions. I make sure you see a diverse set of problems so there are no surprises on your tests/exams!
I studied Nuclear Engineering and finished an MBA all the same time while working part-time. So yeah, I've got some good study tips lol Recently, I completed a certificate program in Data Science through University of Toronto and Waterloo.
Outside of teaching, I've worked in Research (Ontario Tech U, Berkeley National Lab) and Consulting (Kinectrics) wearing many hats including ... Technical Analyst, Project Manger, Business Development, Finance & Accounting, Engineering, Data Science, Machine Learning and Software Development.
I've got a lot of diverse experience paired with a decade of teaching experience making me a great resource in your academic journey.
