>>>PLEASE READ BEFORE ENROLLING: 1. The live portions of this class are 40-minute-long, fast-paced, lecture-and-multimedia-slide presentation, with Q&A breaks as time permits -- you know your learner(s) best, so please consider if the session length and format is a good fit for them. 2. We will not actually be playing Minecraft together live in class. While individual students may choose to be on their games while attending class, this is NOT part of the class itself. Students are however encouraged to share in-game experiences on the classroom board before and after the live session!<<< 3. For learners who previously took the Outstanding Ocelots class in this series, this new expanded class will include material previously covered for this mob/animal BUT will also have some new info, including their inclusion in the new Minecraft Legends game! *** In this installment of Minecraft Zoology, we will be checking out each of the three feline mobs in Minecraft - the domestic cats, the ocelots, and the new "regal tiger" in Minecraft Legends (which appears to be based on the extinct prehistoric Smilodon, commonly known as a "saber-toothed tiger" but not actually of the same lineage as modern tigers). After meeting the cute cubey versions of these critters and reviewing their in-game stats and features, we will learn about their real-life inspirations and see where how they are related to eachother and the other members of the Felidae family tree. 1st session: Cat mob; intro to the Felidae family tree, Domestic Cat (Felis catus) 2nd session: Ocelot mob; Ocelot (Leopardus pardalis) 3rd session: "Regal Tiger" mob; Smilodon/Sabre-Toothed Cat (Smilodon spp.); review of the Felidae family tree, wrap-up The live sessions will consist primarily of slides and multimedia content (including YouTube video clips) accompanied by lecture, but there will be opportunities to ask questions as time permits, and the classroom board can also be utilized before and after class to engage in discussion about the topic. Additional resources will also be posted in the classroom after the live session ends to help further your understanding and study of both the species and concepts introduced in class!

I am a zoologist who enjoys sharing my love of the animal kingdom with lifelong learners of all ages. I've also been playing video games since the first gen when they all used to look this pixelated... ;)
I also have two decades experience as a home education facilitator ad advocate, including homeschooling my own children from preschool through high school. I am a big proponent of flexible learning, individualized education, and supporting fellow neurodiverse learners, so please don't hesitate to reach out to me with any questions or requests for additional resources. We all learn in our own way and time, but everyone should have the chance to learn about how cool animals are!
