課堂經歷
This class is a book recommendation course! Each week, teens will come together to share their favorite reads and to get recommendations from other readers. This class will be a casual discussion to help everyone find their next favorite book. By high school, reading can feel like a required task instead of the exciting experience it once was. The purpose of this course is to rediscover the love of reading by learning about new books and figuring out our reading tastes. Reading is much more fun when you choose books that meet your personal preferences. We’ll also create a community of readers. Teens will get to meet others who love talking about books! Your teacher, Ms. Elise, has worked with teens in public libraries and in schools to promote reading. One of her favorite activities is "reader's advisory," which is the art of recommending books to readers. She'll be able to share a wealth of knowledge about young adult literature as well as tips and tricks to always have a great book ready to read. In this class, we'll also learn about some amazing resources to find book recommendations based on what we already like to read. Students will explore Goodreads, Novelist, and ways to use social media to learn about new books. The goal of the session is for students to walk away with the title of a new book to read. Each week, students are free to guide the discussion in any direction they choose based on the books and genres they're interested in. However, we will also have a focus for each session that will serve as a starting point for student discussion. We may spend the entire session talking about them or we may only touch on them briefly if the students have other books they'd like to talk about. Here are some upcoming topics: Friday, Jan. 8: Upcoming 2021 YA Releases Friday, Jan. 15: How to find books like the ones you've loved Friday, Jan. 22: Teen books that have been adapted into movies or TV shows Friday, Jan. 29: Unique young adult retellings (using old stories and making them new)
