Each class will begin with a lesson on a critical writing skill, followed by a story, and then practice using those writing skills.  Critical writing skills covered will include: identifying fragments and using question words to expand sentences. We will also practice writing statements, writing questions, combining sentences, identifying and/or writing topic sentences, identifying and/or writing closing sentences, and sequencing detail sentences.  Explicit teaching of writing skills will move from simple to complex.  The main focus will be identifying fragments and changing them into complete and expanded sentences.  Moral lessons will also be part of our class discussion.

Day One:  How Brother Rabbit Fooled the Whale, a Southern Folktale
Day Two:  The Tale of Peter Rabbit by Beatrix Potter
