Students will learn how to create and structure a horror story of their own creation. The topics in the horror genre are vast, so each learner can focus on something that sparks their interest. The class will begin with a writing warm-up to get our brains working, and then we will go into genre-specific writing prompts. My B.A. is in English and Creative Writing, and I have a Master's in Secondary Education. I am a New York State certified teacher in English 7-12. I have taught for many years at the middle school level. My horror writing has been published in a few anthologies put together by the local writing group I am a part of. I love to read and write horror in my spare time.
A pen or pencil and lots of paper for all of your ideas and writing exercises! If you prefer to use Word or Google Docs instead of paper, that is fine as well. Get ready to write!
Some of the imagery talked about may be scary or disturbing to others. Other aspects of horror and horror writing will be discussed. Use caution at your discretion.
We will refer to the elements of a plot diagram to show the different stages in a piece of writing.
