寫讀者：作家讀書俱樂部

The class follows a discussion format, and members choose their own books and examples. Meetings start with an opportunity for members to share what they're reading and practice articulating why they like or don't like it. This also shares the joy of reading as they build community and hear recommendations from readers with similar tastes. Each month we focus on two components of good writing and stories, using each component for two weeks. As students read, they find examples to share and see examples from the teacher's reading. Components include unique setting details, character personality development, hooks, cliff hangers, show don't tell, similes, and more. Members engage with their texts to see how these components draw readers into stories. This in turn feeds their own writing. These passages become models for writers to develop their own writing. As they see other writers' strengths, they can find their own and lean into them. 

Student direction determines the topics, so they will be announced as they come up. Initial discussions will revolve around the benefits of rereading, friendship or sibling traditions, character descriptions that reveal both physical and personality details, and simile and metaphor. Monthly topics will be added to the classroom page and class description as well as mentioned in class.
