Class Experience

US Grade 7 - 10
In this class students will take a deep dive into many literary devices, like the ones Taylor Swift uses, with poetic magic, in her songs.

Students in this class will:
~learn the literary devices listed below
~view examples of each one in multiple Taylor Swift Songs
~find (and share) examples of the figurative language in popular music
~practice using their new writing skills on songs, poems, short stories, or essays
~share writing with classmates and receive feedback

Class Experience:
1. Watch an interactive instructive video discussing the 4-5 literary devices of that week. These videos use lyrics to Taylor Swift songs, other popular music, and well-known poetry and works of writing to showcase the way writers use these devices.
2. Examine provided lyrics to find examples of the literary devices.
3. Explore favorite artists and writers to identify other uses of the literary devices discussed. Share these with the class and view the discoveries of other students.
4. Use the various literary devices in personal writing--songs, poetry, essays, fiction. Share writing with the class and give and get feedback.
