課堂經歷
Put yourself in the shoes of your reader, who has a plethora of distractions surrounding them. Instead of losing the war for their attention, keep your readers focused on your every word by incorporating context into your arguments, narratives, analyses, and any other written work you share. In this lecture style class, we'll use an original presentation to review what context is and how it's different from content. We'll also consider what keeps a reader engaged and how we as writers can adjust our craft appropriately. We'll then discuss the following four specific contextual influences that bolster reader concentration, while amplifying credibility and authority. * Historical Context * Social Context * Psychological Context * Economic Context Using these four contextual influences, students will actively discuss how they would approach a variety of writing assignments to further engage their audiences with their content.

My name is Amber Johnson, and I am a writing and communication coach. I have nearly 20 years of tutoring experience with students from middle school throughout all levels of post-secondary education. I also have a background as a freelance writer for small businesses, which adds experience in copywriting, technical writing, business writing, marketing, and presentation creation to my skill set. As an academic coach both privately and at a local community college, I specialize in Writing and English, with distinct passions for critical analysis, argumentative essays, college application essays, storytelling, copywriting, and strategic communication. This range of writing experience affords the opportunity to share the practical nature of how effective written communication makes a significant impact not only on academic success, but also in professional careers and personal lives. I love watching students learn and grow in each session we have. It's a personal moment of achievement that we share that lasts beyond that session. My goal is to create "a-ha" moments for each student that propels them to success in all areas of their lives.
