課堂經歷
In this video-based class, students will work to compose one expository essay in an encouraging environment. Along the way, they will understand what an expository essay is, the characteristics of expository writing, how to brainstorm and organize thoughts, how to write clearly, and how to revise their own writing. Although the class is based on videos, I do communicate regularly with the students both in the online classroom and through personal messages, often sent as videos. It is important to me that students feel like they have someone to assist them at all stages of their writing. All submitted essays will receive a detailed instructor evaluation that examines their essay's structure, writing style (including grammar), and content. After students have written the body paragraphs in the first video class, they should submit them for feedback before moving on to the next part of class. ***Please note: This was also the first two videos in a former flex class. If you took Expository Essays (Flex), you will notice that the first two videos are very similar.
學習目標
Students will learn the structure of a five-paragraph essay.
Students will understand how to write a thesis.

超過 2 週課 1:
Part 1: Write the body paragraphs
We'll tackle the big questions, like what an essay is and how it's structured, and then we'll focus on selecting a topic, gathering information, and creating three perfect body paragraphs with all the required sentences. These should be sent to the instructor for feedback before moving on to part 2.
課 2:
Part 2: Write the introduction and conclusion
Lesson 2 begins with perfecting the body paragraphs and strengthening the overall writing style. Then, we'll move on to composing the introduction (with a three-pronged thesis) and conclusion. Students should send in the essay for an evaluation that looks at their structure, style, and content.

學士學位 由 University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill
My passion -- as well as my professional background -- is writing. Professionally, I hold degrees in French Literature and Journalism from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and I've been published in numerous newspapers and magazines. I've also taught writing and literature classes to students of all ages and abilities.
On a personal note, I have homeschooled all five of my children and taught them all to read and write... and with each, it has been a different experience! What's easy for one child is not easy for another. When I teach online, I always remember that it's important to keep learning fun and to incorporate different methods of teaching to reach all my students.
