Students will explore the evolution of the F6F Hellcat as the U.S. Navy’s carrier fighter of choice. Moving from the F2A Buffalo to the F4F Wildcat we will discuss how engineers learned to build a fighter than can launch and land from a carrier and go head to head with the Japanese Zero. We will look at examples of aircraft performance through air battle reports, and discuss aces who learned to use the aircraft effectively. I will provide guided notes with pictures to the students for future reference.
學習目標
Gain a greater understanding the importance of the F6F Hellcat in the WWII Pacific Air War.
Gain a greater understanding of the attributes that made the Hellcat so effective against the Zero.
