Learners will analyze primary source documents and answer comprehension questions based on a primary source. These activities should not take more than one hour to complete.評估
Learners will be assessed informally in each class through verbal comprehension checks and class discussion. Each class will begin with a quick review of the activities from the previous week's class to ensure students understood the material. At the end of each unit, students will complete a Kahoot, which will act as an informal summative assessment of the unit.評分

Join me as we examine the causes and legacy of World War I, and learn about the tremendous impact it had on Europe in the early 20th century. This class will cover the causes of the war, the major battles of the war, the new military weapons and technologies that were used, and the lasting impact the war had following the Treaty of Versailles which led to World War II. This course seeks to examine the big picture causes and legacies of the war rather than examining every detail of each battle. This course will be taught using visual aids via PowerPoint in a lecture-based format. Students will be expected to ask questions and discuss as a group the material that we are covering. During the 50 minute class periods, students should expect to answer questions to check their understanding and participate in class discussions. The last week of the course will be the unit test which will be in the form of an interactive game of Kahoot. This is an introductory class, so students do not need to have any background knowledge coming into class! Week 1: What caused the war? (nationalism, imperialism, militarism, Franz Ferdinand, alliances, Austria-Hungary conflict) Week 2: Events of the war (Triple Entente and Alliance, Schlieffen Plan, battles, trench warfare, new technologies) Week 3: The End of the Great War (eastern front, U.S involvement, armistice, Paris Peace Conference, Wilson's Fourteen Points, lasting legacies of the Treaty of Versailles) Week 4: Kahoot Assessment

- I can analyze how militarism, alliances, imperialism, and nationalism caused World War I.
- Explain how military spending and rivalries among the great powers of Europe increased in the years prior to World War I.
- Analyze how imperialism, and competition for land around the world, was an important underlying cause of World War I.
- Explain how nationalism in Europe as a whole and the Balkans, in particular, led to animosity between countries and little resistance to war.
- Explain how the system of alliances created among European countries before the war began brought many nations into conflict.
- I can explain how the consequences of World War I and the worldwide depression set the stage for the rise of totalitarianism and World War II
- Explain how WWI caused the collapse of the German, Austro-Hungarian, Russian, and Ottoman empires and identify the new nations that were formed in their place.

This course is centered on one of the deadliest events in human history. While I do not include any images that one might consider overly graphic the topic of new technologies in war such as chemical weapons is certainly uncomfortable, but is an integral part of understanding the impact and legacy of World War I.

I am a licensed middle school and high Social Studies teacher in the state of Ohio. I have been teaching Social Studies to middle and high school students for the last four years. I have used this same lesson with students in the classroom and it has always been highly engaging. I also have a Bachelor's degree in both Education and History.
