Students will learn through discussion about different genres and styles of writing. Learners will learn about 'judging a book by its cover' as we take a look at designs, the elements of a book cover and how to set out their own design. Students will learn about blurbs on books and how to write their own. 
Socially, students will practice listening to others' opinions, responding respectfully and allowing each other to have time to speak. Learners will practice sharing their own thoughts and opinions and contributing positively to the discussion. 

Reading and writing are my passions and as well as majoring in English at university, I've almost 20 years’ experience in teaching English in primary schools (4-11-year-olds). Over those years I have worked regularly with groups of children specifically on English writing skills. I've run story reading times in both public libraries and school and encouraging a love of reading in children is one of the greatest achievements I could hope for!
My favourite lessons have always been when I can find out what interests and motivates a student and use those interests to engage a learner and build their confidence.

The books discussed will depend on student sharing. 
We will look at the covers of a few varied books, which may include authors such as Lemony Snicket, Roald Dahl, Dr. Seuss, David Walliams, Julia Donaldson, Anne Fine, etc
