English, Spelling.

This Semester Two Class builds on the basics that your student learned in 3Rs Series - Words Words Words - Semester One- 3rd-5th Grade.  The Semester One Class is a pre-requisite to this class.

Spelling and teaching spelling has always fascinated me.  Learning words that were "much too hard" was something I really enjoyed as a kid.  As I dug through the rules and the phonics to teach my own kids spelling, I was inspired and encouraged by so many who had come before me.  Spelling is just a code, and with a few tricks...that code can be revealed even to the most reluctant learner.

In this Spelling Component of my 3Rs Series - 3rd - 5th Grade class, we will meet for 15 weeks.  

A full syllabus will be available on the first day of class for enrolled students.  So you are able to see the breadth of our semester I will include approximate dates and plans for the semester.  Please, make sure to reference the Outschool Classroom Page for final assignments.

All students will be assessed for their own level of competency and will be given spelling word lists to suit their personal level.  As a class, we will begin working toward learning the phonograms and rules that help them to decode English words.

Spelling Game

Students will create their own spelling rules dictionary during our lesson time.  Each week, each student will have a spelling list of 20 words and 5 written activities to choose from.    They will choose 3 activities to turn in by midnight the day before our class.  They will take their personalized Spelling Test online.  I will create the lists and provide the links.
