Designed for 4th-6th graders, this course will help your learner grow in critical reading, vocabulary, and writing skills. With short, manageable chapters, students will explore important comprehension strategies, such as making inferences, analyzing characters and settings, and using text evidence. His journey highlights the power of kindness—a message we believe is essential for all students. Our class discussions will encourage thoughtful reflection and connection with this beautiful story. Students are expected to read the assigned chapters before class, and with 121 short chapters, your learner will stay engaged. These texts are approved for the middle-grade level and are designed to challenge students. Please refer to commonsense media to make sure that the novel is appropriate for your learner. Some of the text does involve sad situations. The book contains bullying and hateful language but goodness wins out, and readers should find it inspiring and uplifting. The novel also has messages of individuality, nonconformity, friendship and courage. Topics will be handled from a trauma-informed approach.
