We will look at and identify a variety of interesting insects and learn what characteristics make an insect an insect (or not!) with an interactive slide show. We will learn the main characteristics of insects: they have three body parts, two antennae, and six legs. Those body parts are the head, thorax, and abdomen. To support remembering these terms, we will learn two fun and interactive songs which will help students remember how to classify an insect. We will then look at a number of...
Students will be able to classify an insect vs. a non-insect by the end of class.
I have owned and operated my own preschool for over twenty years and hold a license to teach Early Childhood Education for 3-7 year old children in all subjects. I have additional coursework in Maine's Early Childhood Learning Guidelines; this course specifically targets both the "science" and 'creative and fine arts" domains.

We will be learning two songs that will incorporate movement. While these may be performed sitting in a chair, you may wish to encourage your learner to get up and move a bit during the song. If you so choose, please clear an area near the computer so your learner can safely move without any obstructions and encourage them to stretch and drink water when appropriate.
