Students will improve their ability to read for understanding through the use of the post-it strategy while reading non-fiction texts of varying lengths.  
I am a 6-12 social studies teacher that spends a significant amount of time teaching high school students how to read for understanding with college level textbooks.  I teach various strategies for reading to better improve students' understanding and ability to apply knowledge in classroom-based discussion.

Three texts of various lengths will be provided during the lesson. Students need to print the curriculum and bring a writing utensil and post-it notes.

Students will need to print the assigned reading so he or she may mark on the texts. Readings will be sent after students sign up for the course and identify which topic of text is preferred.  Topics include: sports, government, science, geography or history.
