課堂經歷
Have you ever been read a chapter in a book and gotten to the end of the page or chapter only to wonder what you just read? If so, this class is designed for you. Using post-it notes, we will learn to read, recall, and summarize throughout non-fiction reading to improve reading comprehension and application. This strategy will encourage readers to summarize what was just read, leave a short summary in the reading, and how to go back to study the reading. The course will take a practical approach by explaining the practice, modeling the behavior, and then asking students to apply their new learning during the class. As students gain confidence with this strategy, reading becomes easier and they have set-up their study guide for the test.

Students will improve their ability to read for understanding through the use of the post-it strategy while reading non-fiction texts of varying lengths.

Three texts of various lengths will be provided during the lesson. Students need to print the curriculum and bring a writing utensil and post-it notes.

Students will need to print the assigned reading so he or she may mark on the texts. Readings will be sent after students sign up for the course and identify which topic of text is preferred. Topics include: sports, government, science, geography or history.
