Hallo und Guten Tag!

Sprichst Du Deutsch? This German for Beginners High School 2 is for learners who are continuing their German language expedition. In this weekly class, learners will focus on vocabulary enhancement, reading/listening to texts, expressing themselves in German. We will focus on everyday conversations, such as shopping, talking to friends, making plans, asking for information etc.

This Weekly German for Beginners High School 2 class is for learners who already have some German skills through German classes. Learners who have studied German in a self-directed way (e.g. using Duolingo) can also enroll in this class.


During the live meetings, we will use virtual presentations and short videos to introduce the content followed by learner-centred activities such as role playing, exercises, and games. 

In each lesson, we will cover the four skills 
- listening, 
- speaking, 
- reading, 
(- writing),
with a strong emphasis on listening and speaking during the online session. 

We will 
- listen to short audio texts to train global as well as selective listening, 
- build up new vocabulary,
- prepare short everyday conversations in German
- practice pronunciation, vocabulary, and grammar in an intensive and ongoing way,
- explore authentic situations and activities and train natural, spontaneous interaction.

Week 2 from February 14th: Talking about friendship/Valentine's Day
Week 3 from February 21st: Explore German music and favorite musical genres
Week 4 from February 28th: Compound words: Barbaras Rhabarberbar
Week 5 from March 7th: Fashion and trends
Week 6 from March 14th: German cuisine and food preferences
Week 7 from March 21st: My pet makes me happy
Week 8 from March 28th:  Spooky stories and imagination
Week 9 from April 4th: Inventors and innovations
Week 10 from April 11th: Design your dream city
Week 11 from April 18th: Fairy tales and characters
Week 12 from April 25th: Superpowers and heroes
Week 13 from May 2nd: Meeting a celebrity
Week 14 from May 9th: What do you think? Talk about opinions
Week 15 from May 16th: Dreams and professions
Week 16 from May 23rd: The future of school and learning
Week 17 from May 30th: Sports and healthy habits
Week 18th from June 7th: Modern tech and social media habits
Week 19th from June 14th: Vocabulary for nature, pollution, recycling
Week 20th from June 21st: German landmarks and travel


This class is highly interactive, and we will encourage every learner to speak as much German as possible during the course by creating a safe, inclusive, and warm atmosphere. Our teaching style is flexible in order to meet learners' specific needs, preferences, and challenges. Oral communication is the key skill in this class, so we will focus on speaking and practicing little dialogues.

In our meetings, we will use different kinds of texts, comic strips, activities, exercises, drawings, photos, videos, reference materials, grammar tables, verb lists, and a glossary. In addition, we will also use interactive, digital, and print materials that we have created over the course of the 18 years of preparing and assessing students in German.
