This class is a FLEX class, which means you will receive a video recording of each lesson. Here’s how it works: Lesson Format: Video Recording: I will teach the spelling rule and ask you to spell words. You’ll pause the recording, spell the word, then unpause to check your spelling. We’ll discuss why the word is spelled that way and review syllables taught in the first Spelling Rules class (open syllables, closed syllables, r-controlled vowels, VCE words, etc.). Homework: 10 optional spelling words assigned each week. Homework will need to be printed but not turned in. Participation in spelling activities is encouraged. Weekly Activities May Be As Follows: Answer questions about spelling rules or words. Create a video explaining the rule. Answer challenge questions. Post a picture of a sentence and drawing. Provide clues like synonyms or vocab definitions for classmates to guess the word. Play games like Jeopardy. Weekly Quiz: At the end of the week, take a spelling test and a short quiz on the spelling rule. Use the Kahoot link to access the game directly without logging in or creating an account. 📝🌟🚀

Hi, I'm Rachel Capes! 🌟
I have an Early Childhood Degree and a Master's in Literacy. I spent 12 amazing years teaching 4th and 5th graders, and Kindergarten SPED in public schools. I even got to be a math and literacy coach!
Now, I homeschool my four wonderful kids. One is gifted, two are right where they should be, and one has a learning disability. This time at home has given me a deeper understanding of all learning styles.
I believe learning should be hands-on and fun! Kids should be excited about math and reading.
In math, we use manipulatives, drawing, and algorithms to make learning engaging. When we meet more than once, kids get to share how they solved problems and explain their thinking.
In reading, we dive into books, discuss vocabulary, explore literary elements, analyze characters and plots, and make predictions. Everyone gets to share their thoughts and opinions while respecting others'.
I love to read, be outdoors with my kids, and this year we're learning to garden together. 🌱
I also teach World History and Geography at an accredited homeschool group.
Let's make learning an adventure! 🎉📚✨
