Students will use Nearpod Field Trips to explore Masada in Israel, within the history of the broader Middle East via Virtual Reality Tours. I hold a Master's in Anthropology from Binghamton University and Bachelor's in Sociology/Anthropology and Music from Mansfield University. I completed my archaeological field school internship through the University of Sheffield in England. Currently, I am a full time NY certified high school social studies teacher.
This class uses Nearpod with Youtube links embedded for the tour and virtual reality experience. Students' device should be able to play regular youtube videos, not just kid's videos. Nearpod can be accessed via the link I will provide in the classroom or via join.nearpod.com and the code I will provide. If a student is using a tablet, ipad, or phone they should download the free nearpod app and use the code I will provide.
Please note that the history of Masada requires discussion of suicide.
VR Tour images and videos come from a combination of Nearpod VR and videos of going through the airport and side itself. Sources for information from this tour include UNESCO World Heritage Centre website, lonely planet, Jewish Virtual Library, history channel, my own experience at the site, and history.com.
