In this five-hour course, students will be introduced to iMovie's video editing software program, and create their own short video by the end of the course. The class will be hands-on, with live demonstration and then time for students to work with the tools themselves. Mini "exploration" assignments will be given between sessions to ensure students have explored the tools taught during the session. At the end of six sessions, students will produce a short finished film in which they have edited video footage, used backgrounds and titles effectively, added appropriate audio tracks, and demonstrated thoughtful use of transitions.
I have been teaching iMovie for over ten years, and my middle school students frequently win local and state-wide film competitions, largely attributed to their skillful use of many of iMovie's tools that take their student films to much more mature, advanced levels that rival their peers.
