課堂經歷

英語程度 - 未知
美國 7 - 10 年級
Twice-exceptional people (gifted in one area while simultaneously struggling in another area) have so much to offer the world, especially when they learn to operate with their strengths in mind. I created this class for gifted students with ADHD, dyslexia, autism, or another struggle in order to help them view their minds in a positive way.

It's fascinating to learn the biographies of creative thinkers posthumously diagnosed with a learning disorder, social anxiety, or some other struggle. We will illuminate the minds of creative thinkers by digging into quotes written about (or written by):

Hans Christian Andersen
Simone Weil
Emily Dickinson
Mozart
Beethoven
Archimedes
Vincent van Gogh
Isaac Newton
Nikola Tesla
Einstein

We will answer the guiding question: When is being different a good thing? When (and why) does being twice-exceptional benefit the creative process?

Because posthumous diagnosis can be controversial, I will be referencing two books (noted in the sources) for this class. I teach using a combination of visuals and slide shows while leaving plenty of time for positive interaction and questions. No prior experience is needed to take this class. Students will enjoy the quirky historical facts and powerful stories inside these bios. Most of all, I hope they walk away with some lessons to help them invent something amazing someday while loving their quirky minds.

學習目標

- Students will improve their knowledge of what it means to be twice-exceptional
- Students will learn about the exciting life and times of past inventors, scientists, mathematicians, musicians, and philosophers
- Students will learn to analyze and interpret creativity through the lens of the past
- Students will learn about the role of patience, perfectionism, and competition in the creative process

My master's thesis was about bibliotherapy and its impact on the social skills of students who are gifted. I pull from many sources (both personal and professional) in order to put together impactful classes for learners who identify as twice-exceptional. I've recently spent three years as a public school teacher providing special education reading services to middle school students. In addition, I've enjoyed organizing activities to help them with their social struggles. I also have extensive experience working with Davidson Young Scholars in the profoundly gifted population and with learners who identify as twice-exceptional.

I've also served as a K-8 enrichment coordinator/talented and gifted coach in the past, implementing various assessment strategies while providing specific feedback on student work. Regardless of student ability, my passion is implementing modifications and accommodations for comprehensive support of student needs. - Michelle Ptacek
