In this ongoing tutoring class, students will receive individualized instruction in English and reading skills. Week 1- The instructor will conduct an informal assessment of the child's reading ability. This will be accomplished through reading a specifically selected passage, after communicating with the child's parent via classroom email. We will play some simple word games and complete activities to assess strength with phonics, sight words and grammar. Week 2 and so on- The instructor...
Students will show improvement in reading, grammar and decoding skills.
I believe children learn best through play and fun. For thirty plus years I relied upon this knowledge to help young children learn. In my experience, kids want to read, but sometimes the mechanics seem overwhelming. Breaking reading down into bite-sized pieces where kids experience success, is the key to igniting a passion for reading and learning.

Hello and welcome to my classroom. After introductions, I will do an informal assessment to see what your child already knows, in our first class. Afterward, I would like to speak with a parent to find out your goals and any concerns you have for your child's reading ability. With this information, I can work with you to address your child's learning needs. If you know how to turn on annotation for your child, we will use this interactive tool. If you do not know how, I can help you. If your child uses a ChromeBook, this feature is not available. That is fine, we can work around it.
