In this one-to-one tutoring course, a student can expect to learn basic phonics, sound blending, pre-reading and early reading skills.  Topics will be determined by students' prior knowledge and reading proficiency.  A pre-reader will begin by building a good phonics base.  The student will learn to put these sounds together.  I will incorporate the importance of comprehension with both reading and listening exercises.   An early reader can expect to build on the skills they have already obtained.   All classes will be individualized for the student to meet their personal goals. I use a variety of practice strategies including game, songs, and predictable text.  For the beginner, a lot of demonstration and repetition will help the learner accomplish goals.  There are no prior knowledge requirements for this individualized class.   
Beginner topics include: basic introductions, family, items in the home, colors, numbers, alphabet and phonics using easy sentence patterns.
Advanced beginner topics include: simple grammar rules, verb conjugation, vocabulary extensions in topics about school and the neighborhood.
Intermediate topics include: more complex grammar and spelling rules, past tense and future tense verbs, vocabulary building using antonyms and synonyms, using more complex sentence structures.
