What will be taught?
This 7-week history course will teach about the early colonial period, starting with the Lost Colony of Roanoke and ending with the formation of the Thirteen Colonies.

What topics will you cover?
The topics covered will include:
The Lost Colony of Roanoke
The Founding of Jamestown
Life in Jamestown (through Blood on the River)
The Pilgrims and Plymouth Colony
New England Colonies (Puritans and trade)
Middle Colonies (Diversity and prosperity)
Southern Colonies (Plantation life and slavery)
Regional Differences among the Colonies
The Road to Unity for the Thirteen Colonies

How is your class structured?
The class is structured to meet online once per week for 14 weeks, with each session lasting one hour. Each week focuses on a specific topic related to early colonial history, with integrated English Language Arts (ELA) components such as reading comprehension, writing activities, and creative projects.

How will you teach?
I will teach using a mix of interactive lessons, multimedia resources, and hands-on activities. Students will engage with Blood on the River as a historical fiction text and analyze primary sources to deepen their understanding. Creative assignments such as writing journal entries and designing colonial maps will help reinforce key concepts.

What's your teaching style?
My teaching style is interactive and student-centered. I focus on making history engaging through storytelling, group discussions, and creative activities that help students connect with historical events on a personal level. My lessons are designed to encourage critical thinking and active participation.

How much will learners get to interact with you?
Learners will interact with me during our weekly online classes and through discussion forums. I will provide feedback on assignments and be available to answer questions or provide support throughout the course. My goal is to foster a supportive learning environment where students feel comfortable engaging and sharing their ideas.

 My lesson is about the mysterious disappearance of the Roanoke Colony. Students will read historical accounts, analyze primary sources, and explore various theories about what might have happened. They’ll create a timeline of events and a mock social media post reflecting the Roanoke settlers’ last moments.

In this 7-week history course, we will cover topics that may be challenging or sensitive for some learners. These include discussions about the hardships faced by early settlers, the conflicts with Native American groups, the rise of slavery in the Southern Colonies, and the difficult realities of colonial life. We will approach these subjects with care and respect, ensuring a supportive and thoughtful environment for all students. If you or your child have concerns about any of these topics or need additional support during the course, please feel free to contact me.
