課堂經歷
This is a beginners German course which is very slightly more advanced than 'Time for German 101', so I do recommend taking the 'Time for German 101' course first if you are a complete beginner. Obviously, you can take both courses at the same time if you want to double your German exposure. In the context of the 80 lesson 'Time for German Scheme of Work', this course will take you through lessons 17 - 32. This course is a great introduction to the German language and is loosely based on the lessons on my website www.zeitfuerdeutsch.com, but adapted and improved for Outschool. The website is very popular and used by German teachers all over the world. Every lesson starts with a new topic and fresh new vocabulary so they can join this ongoing course at any time. A printable sheet containing all vocabulary for each lesson will be provided in the classroom a few days before each lesson starts and an additional activity will also be provided so that the learning can continue outside of the classroom. These 'additional activities' include crosswords, wordsearches and translation activities and I find that many of my students have a 'Time for German' folder that they keep all of their documents in to revise and remind them of all the learning done in class. Throughout my many years experience of teaching German, students have often said that my lessons were 'easy', despite the ambitious learning objectives of the lessons. In my previous school, I was the co-operative learning specialist and school lead, employing creative learning strategies and techniques to make my lessons more engaging, fun and co-operative. Throughout the course, I will use fun slides and activities to engage the students and learners will also be able to practise conversations with each other. I will ask lots of questions to build up the student's knowledge into functional sentences and at the end of the class, students will take part in a fun quiz to test out their new knowledge. Here is a brief summary of the learning goals of the first five weeks of the course: Week 1 - Wonderful German Words Learning Objective: Learn 12 Wonderful, Interesting and Funny German Words Success Criteria (students should be able to say most or all of the following in German after the lesson): *I understand the literal meaning of German words that I already use in English *I can break down German compound words and understand all of the parts *I understand the literal meaning of the German names of some animals *I can make up my own compound words in German Week 2 - Adjectives and Opposites Learning Objective: Describe people and things in German Success Criteria: *I can describe people *I can describe animals *I can say the opposite adjective *I can use he and she Week 3 - Parts of the Body 102 Learning Objective: Name Parts of the Body in German Success Criteria: *I can identify 12 parts of the body in German *I can listen to a word and point to the correct part of the body *I can play ‘Simon says’ in German *I can answer the question ‘Was ist das?’ Week 4 - Clothing and the Weather Learning Objective: Say what clothes are suitable for the weather Success Criteria: *I can name 12 items of clothing and accessories *I can say what I wear in different seasons *I can say what I wear in different weather conditions *I have started to understand the accusative case *I can say if an item of clothing is right or wrong for the weather Week 5 - Numbers to 100 Learning Objective: Count to 100 in German Success Criteria (students should be able to say most or all of the following in German after the lesson): *I can identify each number to 100 in German *I know to add '10' to the end of the numbers from 13 - 19 *I know which way around to say the tens and ones for numbers above 20 *I know what to do with the number 7 in 17 and numbers in the 70's *I can count in 10's to 100 The topics in subsequent weeks will be: 6) Animal Olympics 7) To Have 8) Wunderbar Vegetables 9) Transport and Vehicles 10) Directions and Places 11) Jobs and the Workplace 12) On the Farm and 'es gibt' 13) Countries, Cities and Maps 14) Picnic and Barbeque 15) Prepositions 16) The Solar System *** Learners are currently on Week 9 of the cycle *** After lesson 16, the course will return to lesson 1 - Wonderful German Words - and the cycle will repeat. On completion of all 16 lessons (from whatever start point), your child will receive a certificate (please request this). Your child may then want to repeat the course to consolidate their knowledge or they may want to start another of my courses: Recommended course sequence: 1 - Time for German 101 (16 Lessons) 2 - Time for German 102 (16 Lessons) Then you will be ready for the '103 Track'. It does not matter in which order you do the following courses but this is the order that they will take place on the same day and in the same time slot. Just make sure you book onto the follow-up course and complete all 48 lessons in 103: 3 - Time for German 103 - Beginner to Intermediate World Languages Course: Version 1 - Reading Focus (16 Lessons) 3 - Time for German 103: Grimm German Grammar 1 - Rapunzel's Routine & Conjunctions (4 Lessons) 3 - Time for German 103: Grimm German Grammar 2 - Hansel and Gretel (4 Lessons) 3 - Time for German 103 - Beginner to Intermediate World Languages Course: Version 2 - Verb Focus (16 Lessons) 3 - Time for German 103: Grimm German Grammar 3 - Dornröschen and the Perfect Tense (4 Lessons) 3 - Time for German 103: Grimm German Grammar 4 - The Frog Prince (4 Lessons) ***Refunds*** Please refer to the Outschool refund policy. I do not give refunds/credits if you miss a class or can't make a class you have enrolled in. However, the same lesson runs on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Sundays so if you cannot make your regular lesson, I will do my best to accommodate you in one of my other classes. If you cannot make any of the lessons, please unsubscribe and then resubscribe when you can attend again. ***Behaviour*** I have high expectations of behaviour. As an Outschool parent, I understand how frustrating it can be when one child spoils the lesson for the other children. I go over my expectations at the start of the lesson but my main rules are putting you hand up when you want to speak and not excessively playing with filters and emojis.

A document containing all of the vocabulary for each lesson will be provided. Students can refer to this during the lesson but if you can't print it out, they will be perfectly fine without it. An additional activity such as a translation sheet will also be provided so that the learning can continue outside of the classroom. This is an 'extra' so the children can complete it only if they want to. For the quiz near the end of each lesson, the learner should be able to access Nearpod on their web browser. If this isn't possible, I will simply read out the questions for them to answer.
