Third graders should be reading more independently, as well as reading for enjoyment. Independent reading is very useful but most children of this age still need reading instruction as they begin to build a greater vocabulary, tackle more difficult words and continue to improve in fluency. Join us any week to practice oral reading, reading comprehension, and use phonics to improve word decoding and spelling. Our writing practice will include moving from writing more dictated sentences to using personal writing skills to write individually unique sentences and stories. Three days a week we will focus on reading, day four will include spelling practice and day five we will write sentences and stories. TYPICAL CLASS ROUTINE:
Greeting/Get to know you time
Class time, including teaching of given topic and practice of that skill
Closing which may include a puppet, a game, or show and tell, depending on the type of class your learner is taking. My goal is to have every child smiling and excited to return to the next class!
