課堂經歷
Start your journey to prepare for a lucrative career in cybersecurity while learning to protect yourself from modern threats. In the United States, there are currently 600,000 unfilled cybersecurity positions; and the average salary for an entry-level role in cybersecurity hovers around $70,049. This course brings together analytically-minded, creative, and curious learners ages 13 - 18 to learn ethical hacking and cybersecurity skills so that we can: Unlock resourcefulness, empathy, and critical thinking; Learn about a rewarding and lucrative profession; Learn to navigate the persistent risk in our digital world safely; and Become lifelong hackers who realize witty solutions to life’s obstacles.
Please call me Jackie. My career has spanned nearly 20 years touching the fields of national security, law enforcement, and international affairs. I’ve spent the last eight years in the field of cybersecurity. I'm a homeschool mom of three, a wife, and am adept at taking complex subjects and distilling them into their simplest form. As a cybersecurity awareness professional I’ve taught audiences through the years how to stay safer online. My career has taken me to the halls of the Pentagon and even shaking hands with the President. At its core, hacking is about resourcefulness. It's about creativity and finding alternative entry points to accomplish a mission. Although technical skills are important, as hackers, we are also problem-solvers, we learn from failure, conduct and gain insights from our research, and apply emotional intelligence. I've come to realize, like many, that I've been hacking my entire life. Hope to see you soon in Hacker Homeschool!
Students will need a reliable, internet-connected laptop or desktop computer with a web browser. It is also strongly suggested to either have a second device (tablet, mobile phone, etc.) or a second monitor to view the Zoom video. This is not a requirement but will enhance the learning experience by allowing the student to complete hands-on activities without switching between windows.
In this course, students will be introduced to ethical hacking which is employing an offensive mindset to protect organizations and individuals from cyber compromise by discovering vulnerabilities and devising solutions to remediate those vulnerabilities. We will cover topics such as ethics, legality, current scams, and cyber threats. Learners must be able to discuss these topics with maturity and professionalism. In this class we will learn about ethical hacking alongside cybersecurity defense. Nothing we will learn here is illegal and any hacking demonstrations are purely simulated. In real life--and we'll talk about this in class--it is illegal to break into anything that you were not permitted to access or analyze.
I've been working in the field of cybersecurity for nearly eight years, and before that, I worked in national security, emergency preparedness, and law enforcement for the U.S. Federal Government. I am a cybersecurity awareness professional and...
