Looking for an American Sign Language class that fits the needs of all of your learners at various ages? This is it! In this course, your students will learn the basics of American Sign Language; fingerspelling, numbers, colors, food, animal, clothing, and feeling signs in a way that caters to their individual levels. Emerging readers can learn the same content as the older, or more advanced readers, just at an individualized state. This class is perfect for families with multiple students spanning across many age ranges to learn the same material at their own level. This will allow kids to practice what they learn with their siblings granting a more productive learning experience for the entire family. Throughout this class, students will learn the basic rules, culture and history, as it pertains to ASL communication and a multitude of vocabulary signs in topics such as, greeting signs, colors, numbers, family & people signs, animals, and foods. Each week's material will include two methods of learning the content that caters to older advanced readers and students and younger or emerging readers. The content for both is pretty much identical, but the material for emerging readers will include more video-based directions to aid students who need a bit more support to achieve the language learning goals. Emojis and other pictures will be used to help guide younger students through the course, while more written explanations are available for older students. Younger learners may still require parental support as they go through the lessons. The lessons will include detailed video explanations of new vocabulary signs, recommended assignments requiring video and/or written submissions from students. I am always happy to work cater learning to individual students' needs and encourage parents to reach out to me detailing their expectations, and any general concerns so that students have the best learning experience possible. I will not link to any outside resources unless parents are consulted. While all links in the course are Coppa Compliant as indicated by Outschool, I do have several resources ONLY for students over the age of 13 that I can recommend for zealous students ONLY AFTER parents give consent. I will share any outside resources not listed in the course description with parents first, before I share them with students in the classroom. As a teacher, I am only offering additional learning resources to your students' curriculum. You as the parent may choose how much work or effort is expected and appropriate for your unique learner, and I am happy to abide by and support your expectations for your students. All assignments are recommended, but it is up to you as the parent to decide when and how student complete assignments within the class' availability time frame and what kind of feedback your student receives. I will generally comment on students' video submissions of assignments requiring vocabulary signing, but I will refrain from doing so if requested by the parent. If you indicate that you are only looking for your student to study the course material at their own pace without submitting any assignments, I will respect and support your decision and will not ask for assignment submissions. If no such requests are made known to me, I will check in with students periodically to ask about their intentions concerning the assignments and if a student does not indicate a desire to complete assignments, I will respect the choice unless told otherwise by the parent or guardian. If you as the parent indicate that assignments are mandatory and explicitly expresses guidelines for homework expectations and a student fails to meet them, I will reach out to let you know about the situation.

I'll also make reference to points made in a documentary by Gallaudet University concerning ASL history and the many transitions that it has taken throughout the years. Several interviewees were interviewed to adequately present how deafness and ASL was viewed during various points in history. The video will not be shown or shared with students, but the link is provided for parents and guardians to review the content.

I have a communicative level in ASL, having been exposed to the language from the age of two. I continued my involvement with the deaf community and learning ASL through attending meetups with Deaf individuals, self-study on Dr. Bill Vicar's (well-known and respected deaf ASL teacher) online university, and a community college class. For the past three years, I have been teaching ASL to 6-12-year-olds at a homeschool co-op.
