After this series, learners can engage in a fun quiz game, from the website Gimkit. There will be a total of 120 questions. It is not mandatory, but answering these questions will solidify what they learned in class. Students can select a funny character, called Gims, and play a fishing game or a farming game and earn coins to buy more upgrades. They must answer questions they learned from class to earn bait or seeds The more correct answers, the more upgrades!

"These days, there is more emotional labor than there is physical labor"
Arlie Hochschild, PhD

Welcome to the Science of Emotions and become an emotions scientist!

Each class, I will provide the learners with 20 questions. I hope they answer the 20 questions during each class. They can use their 120 total questions to play a game for Gimkit.

This is a science-based approach to learning about emotions. I am defining emotions and how they impact our biology and decision-making.

Emotions should not be mysterious. These are states that our bodies get into to prepare us for the moment. We are human and everyone has them. Some emotions, however, are rarely discussed.

Talking about the definitions of these emotions removes the mystery behind them, and can help with better communication and self-talk. Post covid, it is my hope that families can have a collective understanding of each other's emotions.

"An emotional scientist can pause and asks: “what am I reacting to?"
Marc Brackett, PhD

In this 6 part series on emotion, we explore;
1. How emotions are made
2. Fear and Surprise
3. Sadness and Love
4. Shame and Empathy
5. Anger and Disgust
6. Hope and Curiosity

This class is taught using a space-themed PowerPoint presentation and the animation software After Effects. The presentation is animation based and does not look like a common PowerPoint. There are many pictures and animations to keep the learner engaged.
I created a character called Motion. It is a translucent 3D character that has a nervous system. The nervous system changes colors depending on the emotion.

If you have reached this far, I would like to thank you for considering boosting the emotional intelligence of your learners and therefore your family. Learners are our future, and the family unit is the building block of our society. Boosting awareness in the family unit is boosting our collective awareness.

It's time to become Emotions Scientists.
學習目標
In order to be a good communicator, we need to be aware of the emotions we can access:
Life is about Balance - The body budget by Dr. Lisa Feldman Barret
Understanding fear and anxiety
Understanding the role of sadness
Using empathy to combat shame
Finding out what is behind the anger
Disgust protects us from poison and contamination
Hope is about your goals, and curiosity and imagination are the secret ingredients to achieving those goals.

課 1:
How Emotions Are made
This is the basis of all other classes. We relate emotions back to the concept of the Body Budget and the guessing brain, by Dr. Lisa Feldman Berret.
We will discuss the 3 ingredients that make emotions; mood, the guessing brain, and culture.
This is a class to get students to understand that life is about balance.
Everything our bodies do is to achieve balance, this is scientifically called Homeostasis.
Our emotions stimulate the nervous system and hormones,
課 2:
Fear and Surprise
Fear and surprise are closely linked, but not the same. I go into detail about one type of fear called "anxiety". (Awareness class)
Surprise is the quickest and shortest emotion, but there is a very important scientific explanation why we have this emotion. Surprise is necessary for another emotion, called awe.
Fear is a necessary emotion that protects us from danger. But because we are not worried about lions or bears eating us, we deal with another form of fear in the modern world
課 3:
Sadness and Love
Sadness is seen as a negative emotion, but we will unpack how sadness fosters connections with people you love. (Connection class)
Sometimes we tell each other to "not be sad". Sadness is seen as a negative emotion, however, it is important for human development. Of course, I do not encourage feeling sad all the time, but I would like to ensure learners that sadness is a very normal emotion and that sadness fosters connection (From learner to parent, for example).
Love cannot be properly define
課 4:
Empathy and Shame
Empathy and Shame affects our body budget, discussed in class 1. There is a scientific unbalance when we experience shame, but empathy is a potent antidote to shame. In fact, empathy completely neutralizes shame. How does shame affect our guessing brain and where is our attention? Friends and family can prevent shameful thoughts with empathy. We can also use empathy on ourselves. First, we explore the science of shame. There is a hidden feature of shame, it loves silence, and it thrives in it.
