****THIS IS A SELF-PACED CLASS. THERE WILL BE NO LIVE MEETINGS DURING THE COURSE.**** **First-time Outschool learners get $20 credit towards this class using code KELSEYT2020 at checkout! For this 4 week self-paced class, learners each week will learn about the English composer, Gustav Holst, and each of the movements from 'The Planets' suite. Not only will there be two lesson videos every week with video listening components, learners will also have the opportunity to have lessons on watercoloring each planet related to each movement from Holst's 'The Planets.' There will be an instrument scavenger hunt for each movement of the suite. Throughout our time together, learners will also be completing a project with watercoloring each planet that we discuss about from 'The Planets' suite. At the end of our time together, learners should be able to bring all of their watercolor planet designs together to create a booklet about 'The Planets' mentioned in Holst's suite. Week 1: Learners will learn about the composer, Gustav Holst. We will also learn about the first two movements of the suite, Mars and Venus. Learners will do a scavenger hunt to find the instruments that they hear in each movement as they are listening to each movement. We will also have quizzes and start our watercolor project together with painting Mars and Venus. Week 2: Learners will learn about the next two movements of the Planets suite, which are Mercury and Jupiter. Learners will go on a scavenger hunt while listening to each movement to find the instruments they hear. There will be quizzes and lessons on the next part of the watercolor project, which is painting Mercury and Jupiter. Week 3: Learners will learn about the next two movements of the Planets suite, which are Saturn and Uranus. Learners will go on a scavenger hunt while listening to each movement to find the instruments they hear. There will be quizzes and lessons on the next part of the watercolor project, which is painting Saturn and Uranus. Week 4: Learners will learn the final movement of the Planets suite, which is Neptune. Learners will go on a scavenger hunt while listening to the movement to find the instruments they hear. There will be review quizzes and the final part of the watercolor project, which is to paint Neptune and to make a booklet or anything else creative with the designs from the course.

Hello! My name is Kelsey Thornton. My sweet friends on Outschool like to call me Ms. Kelsey. I love teaching Montessori lessons, especially Math and Science lessons! I also love to talk about Music, and play around on Chrome Music Lab. I am also a YouTube content creator with my own page, Online Adventures With Kelsey.
I have had 17 years of experience with children. 3 years as a Brick and Mortar Montessori trained teacher (My Early Childhood credential training was under the American Montessori Society). I also have 1.5 years experience as an ESL online teacher. I also have a Bachelor of Science degree in Multidisciplinary Studies (with my main focus in Music Education).
My philosophy on teaching is following the child on their learning interests and understanding that all children learn new concepts in different ways. My approach to teaching is using the Montessori Method with some of the Montessori materials as well. This is definitely beneficial for younger students (ages 3-6 years old) as they are in their “Absorbent Mind” stage of their lives, where they are able to absorb everything they are learning with ease. I want to be able to provide for you and your family a safe approach to learning the Montessori Method all in the comfort of your own home. I love transferring this method into other ways of teaching others, including in music and content creating.

I have been married to my wonderful husband, Christian, for six years now. We have one cat (Bones) and two dogs (Brute and Miracle). My husband and I love to play board games and video games in our spare time and try new foods out at local restaurants, too!
