意第緒語的歷史和一些常見的意第緒語單字

In this one time class, students will learn the history of the Yiddish language and acquire some common Yiddish words.  Yiddish offers a powerful way to celebrate and connect to Jewish history. It connects people to the flourishing Ashkenazi-Jewish culture that the United States was home to decades ago, as well as the bustling Jewish life of pre-Holocaust Europe.  There are also Yiddish slang words that have made their way into the English language, and in fact, over one million books have been published in Yiddish around the world!  This class is designed to capture interest in the Yiddish language and give a few of the common words.  We will learn he meaning of the words and get a chance to practice the proper pronunciation. Sentence structure, etc., is not discussed or taught.  It is strictly an introduction to the history of the language and provides common words.  It is taught in a secular manner.  The class is most beneficial and fun if your student is willing to learn the words, the pronunciation, and practice putting the words into a sentence.  Class Rules:  We mute so we do not talk over each other, we are kind and respectful to everyone, the camera must be turned on at the beginning of class so I may verify the learner per the Outschool rules, and we raise our hand if we have a question or a comment.
