This class will learn about The Moon Festival (also known as the Mid-Autumn Festival) which is celebrated every September in China, and many other countries. We will begin with a story and a brief history of the Moon Festival - what it means to those who celebrate and why it is so important. We will then work on paper lantern craft together, supplies will be listed in the classroom. The Moon Festival is significant as it reminds us to appreciate those around us, so we will end with a discussion about family and how we can celebrate The Moon Festival in our own homes, while honouring those who celebrate with theirs.

This class will discuss the Moon Festival in a way that celebrates the traditions from a general perspective and relates it to the idea of a family celebration like Thanksgiving in North America.
I have completed this lesson quite a few times with my grade 2/3's while I was teaching in the public school system and the idea is to educate and celebrate the Festival while identifying that different countries celebrate different days. We do not try to mimic this day, but rather Educate children from other countries on the variety of meaningful days that are celebrated around the world.
