課堂經歷
Students will learn about the historical journey on the Mayflower. First students will enjoy a read-aloud called The Mayflower. The class will discuss the hardships of the journey. After classroom discussion, students will be led in a STEM activity of engineering their own Mayflower journey. Each student will attempt to float their boat and see how much cargo it can hold.
Students will learn about the historical journey of the Mayflower and the hardships that were endured. Students will also learn how to construct a boat and increase storage on the boat.
I am offering this class because STEM activities with a read-aloud helps increase reading comprehension.
Students will need a variety of materials to build their boat. They do not need all that is listed below but enough to build a boat: Aluminum foil or foil sheets (required) Masking tape or shipping tape Pipe cleaners Modeling clay Popsicle sticks Straws Sandwich baggies Plastic wrap Pennies (required) Storage container filled with water (required)
