Each week the class will read a new reading passage. We will alternate between fiction and non-fiction passages. We begin each class by determining the genre to set our reading focus. Students may volunteer to read sections of the article. If no student feels comfortable reading aloud, the teacher will read the text aloud and pause throughout to ask questions. When the first read is complete we will either cover multiple choice or short response questions. After reading the questions, students will be asked to re-read specified areas of the text to locate relevant details. No prior knowledge is required for the class as each class uses a new article. Sample articles may include: Week of Sept 8: Just the Right Gift/Fiction Week of Sept 15: Pill Bugs/ Non-fiction Week of Sept 22: Speed Math Champ/Fiction Week of Sept 29: The Sensory System/Non-fiction
學習目標
Students will learn how to determine the genre of a text. They will learn to use active reading marks to highlight important details. Finally students will learn strategies to answer both multiple choice and short response test questions.
