每週 1 小時. Each week, learners are assigned homework which includes practicing conversation skills. As with any activity, if you want to become good at it, you must practice. During the times of social distancing, most practice is limited to telephone conversations or video chats. The learners who get the most out of this class are the learners who do the homework. Example of a homework assignment: Talk to 2 people separately via video messenger/Facetime/Duo. Make sure the person with whom you are speaking knows that you are recording them. [Note: I do not accept learners outside of the indicated age range.] This four-week course introduces teens to the art of conversation. Your teen will learn and practice what to say and how to act when meeting someone for the first time or when trying to develop a relationship. Your child will be able to use a variety of greetings, make a conversation last an appropriate length of time and come to a smooth ending. This course involves a considerable amount of one-to-one conversations between the learners. This course is highly interactive. It is not an appropriate course for your teen if they are unable to understand general conversation concepts or if they are unable to have a conversation without being told exactly what to say. Your teen must be visible on screen during this course. Because this class is to help your teen become better at conversations, I ask that your teen have their camera on to improve their ability to communicate properly. Body language/facial expressions are a large part of being able to communicate appropriately. By the end of this series, learners will have the tools they need to create winning conversations. They will be well on the road to feeling confident when having a conversation with a new neighbor, their school’s principal, or the town mayor.

Learners are expected to actively participate which means being visible in the classroom and taking part in all activities. The below are planned topics; however, if the learners needs warrant a change in planned topics, there will be a change.
Week 1: Introductions and how to start a conversation
Week 2: Listening and how to keep a conversation going
Week 3: Keeping conversations balanced
Week 4: Body language and how to end a conversation

NOTES:
1) I am not a special ed teacher and this is not a special ed class.
2) This teen course is appropriate for your child if they are able to hold a basic conversation without help from anyone.
3) This class may be canceled if there aren't at least three students registered. My policy is that if no other learners have enrolled within 24 hours of the class start time, I will contact the parent of the single enrollee to determine whether or not they want a refund or would prefer to have their teen transferred to another section in the future.

Learners will need access to a microphone (built-in computer mic is fine) and camera to allow for practice and interaction during class. There will be weekly practice opportunities for the teen to use at home – a natural extension of what was learned in class that day.

As a distinguished toastmaster, I am trained in communication and as a career coach, I help people create their best lives. I know that if a person is unable to communicate properly, the likelihood of them being able to create their best life is slim. I am also cognizant of the fact that many of our youth are unable to communicate in face to face settings. It is the number one complaint from employers today. Our kids have enough challenges to overcome that are difficult to address. Being able to have a conversation should not be one of them.評論
