This class is a one-session jump-start for new recorder players; no prior experience is needed. We will cover breathing, stream of air, dividing the air into separate notes with our tongue, how to hold the recorder, the letter names and how to play ~3 basic notes, and ideas to continue learning the recorder on your own. As time permits we will try some basic songs like 'Hot Cross Buns' and 'Miss Mary Mack'. This is the perfect class for someone who just wants to try out the instrument before...
Students will be able to correctly hold the recorder and produce the notes G, A, B with a good tone and tonguing.
Each student will need to have their own "Baroque" (not German) fingering recorder. Yamaha or Aulos are reliable quality brands for beginners and many other brands are fine as well. They are available from music stores and online. If your family already owns a recorder here is how to tell if it is Baroque or German fingering: a German-fingering recorder has hole five (counting from the top) which is smaller than hole four, whereas Baroque recorders have hole four which is smaller than hole five.
