▬▬▬▬▬▬ COURSE SUMMARY ▬▬▬▬▬▬ Prepare to travel the world through time and tales - no plane ticket needed! In this class, we will focus on six different combination of humans and creatures, then explore four different ideas about these blends through multiple mythologies. We will discuss stories from various mythologies and cultures, including Roman/Greek, Celtic, Russian, Germanic, Egyptian, Hindu, Chinese, Korean and Japanese. We will discuss how these cultures have echos in our modern day society and how we are still influenced by some of the ideas from these ancient civilizations. Class 1: In our first class together, we will start by butting heads with goat-human hybrids. This class will discuss tales from Greek, Roman, Scottish and German mythologies to compare some polarizing ideas about how naughty or nice each goat-creature can be. Class 2: Next, we fly into myths from Russian, Korea, Greece and Egypt as we soar into bird-human hybrids. Each of these bird-inspired creatures shares a similar place of importance in the culture they represent, showing that birds of a feather do flock together. Class 3: In our third class together, we will be diving deep to search for water-centered humanoids and human hybrids. This class will flow through Celtic, Philippine, Hindu and Egyptian mythologies. Class 4: Slithering into our fourth class are the snake-human hybrids that come to us from Greek, Chinese, Melanesian and Japanese cultures. Class 5: For our penultimate class together, we will shift into what is called "human-skinned" type creatures. These are the myths that can look humanoid or completely human, but goes to show that beauty is only skin deep. Cultures from Ireland, Norway and Wales come together to graft a picture of what to expect from these mythologies. Class 6: In our last class together, we will end on bringing together man's best friend with man himself; dog-human hybrids! Fetching myths from Inuit, Japanese, Germanic and some other roots as well, we can talk a walk with our canine friends through the final installment in this course. I create my entire teaching schedule based on schedule requests, so if you don't see a time that works for you, please put in a request!
學習目標

Students will be able to make connections between themselves and these cultures, ideas and traditions that are present in the myths of this class. Students will be able to compare and contrast the mythological creatures, gods, and stories and then discuss the main ideas from the myths.

I have spent 5 years studying various world mythologies via multiple facets; I have traveled all over the world, from Mexico's Chichén Itzá to the Greek Parthenon and many other places in between. I have taken university courses, sat in on lectures from historians and archaeologists, and researched both fact (scholarly articles / research papers) as well as modern day fiction built around the ideas found in myth and cultures from all corners of the globe. I continue to educate myself with modern research, literature and seminars whenever possible, all to further my interest in the stories I have studied from multiple cultures.
