Welcome to Sounds and Syllables: Level 2. In this course learners will hone their reading skills through direct instruction and practice decoding and reading multisyllabic words with vowel teams, r-controlled, and consonant -le syllable types. Each lesson in this class follows the I do, We do, You do method of instruction to scaffold student learning so that they are able to begin independently decoding multisyllabic words with vowel teams, r-controlled, and consonant -le syllable types....
- Learners will be able to apply phonics and word analysis skills in decoding words.
- Learners will be able to use knowledge that every syllable must have a vowel sound to determine the numbers of syllables in a word.
- Learners will be able to decode two syllable words following basic patterns by breaking the words into syllables
Learners that will be successful in this course are able to read multisyllabic words following the VC/CV pattern (ex: rabbit, helmet), have a basic understanding of open and closed syllables, and are familiar with vowel teams and digraphs.
Learners will need paper and a pen/pencil for each class meeting.
