Hello learners and adults! I’m so excited to start this new ongoing ukulele class with you! This class is designed for young beginners on ukulele, however, if your learner is brand new on their instrument it’s recommended that they take at least one 1-1 lesson first, but it’s not required. They do need to have their instrument tuned up properly before each class (standard GCEA) as this is not something we will be able to cover during class! We will be learning one super simple (and super fun!) song each week. The material for each class includes a pdf of the song (lyrics and chords), and diagrams the chords used in the song (2 chords per song) as well as a recording or YouTube link of the song, so learners can familiarize themselves with it ahead of time. The material for each class will be posted in the classroom a week prior to class. This class is on a 12 week rotation. The songs in order are: Apples and Bananas Farmer in the Dell Mary had a Little Lamb Boil the Cabbage Down Down in the Valley Wheels on the Bus A Tisket a Tasket Six Little Ducks My Home’s Across the Blueridge Mountains Rain Rain Go Away The More We Get Together On the Bridge of Avignon The schedule for 2025 is: The week of February 2: Apples and Bananas The week of February 9: Farmer in the Dell The week of February 16: Mary had a Little Lamb The week of February 23: Boil the Cabbage Down The week of March 2: Down in the Valley The week of March 9: The Wheels on the Bus The week of March 16: A Tisket a Tasket The week of March 23: Six Little Ducks The week of March 30: My Home’s Across the Blueridge Mountains The week of April 6: Rain Rain Go Away The week of April 13: The More We Get Together The week of April 20: On the Bridge of Avignon The week of April 27: Apples and Bananas The week of May 4: Farmer in the Dell The week of May 11: Mary had a Little Lamb The week of May 18: Boil the Cabbage Down The week of May 25: Down in the Valley The week of June 1: The Wheels on the Bus The week of June 8: A Tisket a Tasket The week of June 15: Six Little Ducks The week of June 22: My Home’s Across the Blueridge Mountains The week of June 29: Rain Rain Go Away The week of July 6: The More We Get Together The week of July 13: On the Bridge of Avignon The week of July 20: Apples and Bananas The week of July 27: Farmer in the Dell The week of August 3: Mary had a Little Lamb The week of August 10: Boil the Cabbage Down The week of August 17: Down in the Valley The week of August 24: The Wheels on the Bus The week of August 31: A Tisket a Tasket

I grew up on a farm in Tennessee (USA) and in addition to music I also love raising rabbits, gardening, and reading! I and my husband currently live with our five beautiful children in the state of North Carolina. I am excited to be part of the Outschool family!
Music has always been a big part of my life, starting with classical piano, which I began at age 8, taking private lessons from a professor at the University of Tennessee. Later on, in my teens, my interests shifted to strings and traditional Appalachian and Celtic music. I learned from many people, including bluegrass musician Justin Moses and as a student of Jim Wood at the Jim and Inge Wood School of Music. As a young adult, I worked as a volunteer interpreter at Cade’s Cove, Great Smoky Mountains National Park, teaching park visitors about Appalachian music. I have played professionally for weddings and other events, in restaurant house bands, as well as at the Museum of Appalachia in Norris, TN. I have led traditional music demonstrations for public school classes, in addition to teaching privately for many years.
I am passionate about introducing young people to traditional Appalachian and Celtic music and helping them perfect their skills!
I primarily teach fiddle/violin and Appalachian old-time and Celtic music, but also bluegrass, Western swing and Texas contest-style fiddle. I also play guitar, both standard and Celtic (DADGAD), piano, mandolin, recorder, penny whistle, mountain dulcimer, ukulele and Irish bouzouki.
I see each learner as a unique individual and cater my teaching approach to best suit their needs and interests.
