This class prepares students for middle school social studies classes including research and presentation. It is part of a year-long social studies curriculum designed to be inclusive and support neurodiverse students including twice-exceptional students by providing leveled text, embedded graphics, dyslexia-friendly support, and explicit instruction on executive functioning including notetaking and study skills. Students will learn about historical inquiry. Students will understand critical perspectives. Students will understand how to select and integrate sources. Students will understand how to create an outline. Students will understand how to write a thesis statement. Students will review the writing process. Students will understand peer review. Students will learn best practices for presentations.
I attended a well-recognized teaching college studying education which included multiple courses on teaching history and social studies for diverse learners. I have also completed master's level coursework on decolonizing history in informal education settings. I have been teaching social studies online for over two years to a group of global learners.
