Whether you are a learner who could benefit from some one-on-one reading time with an adult, or an avid reader looking for a new literary challenge, this is the course for you! During our initial session the teacher will conduct a survey with learners designed to get an idea of their reading history and interests. In subsequent sessions we will undertake readings chosen to reflect the individual level and interests of the enrolled student. Reading strategies, comprehension, fluency, and vocabulary skills will be highlighted. Reading passages can be shared by the teacher through the screen-sharing feature, or the student can choose to read from their own copy of a book that they want to use as part of the class. In addition, students will be given the opportunity to take part in discussions with the instructor, creative projects, and games designed to further foster a love for reading!

Hello, my name is Nathan Hoyt. Since 2008, I have been a full-time teacher in the public school system. Now, I am excited to embark on this new journey, stretching beyond the regular classroom and into the engaging world of online learning with Outschool!
For as long as I can remember I have been passionate about literacy. The abilities to read, write and express ourselves effectively are of the utmost importance in basically every situation life can throw our way. It is my deep-rooted desire to meet students where they are at in these skills and try to hone them into even more successful, life-long learners.
I love the opportunity to interact with students in ways that are fun, creative and meaningful. I make it my mission to create a learning environment where all students feel safe, confident, and included. As an educator I never tire of that great feeling of seeing the pride and sense of accomplishment on a young person’s face when they have learned something new and put that learning into action. I would love to be able to share that experience with your students through Outschool!
