In this Writing Workshop style class, your student will learn to stretch a sentence with important details by answering key questions. This class is perfect for young writers that need help expanding their simple sentences into more detailed and well developed sentences. We will start with basic sentences, then learn how to answer very specific questions to stretch, or expand, the sentence with important details. We will also work on organizing the new details into a cohesive, fluent sentence that makes sense. Students will see me do it, help me do it, and have the opportunity to apply the skill independently. We will work both as a group, and independently with teacher support to practice writing well developed sentences. I will use engaging slides (by sharing my screen) to introduce, demonstrate, and teach the new skill. Students will participate in brainstorming activities, work together to complete interactive practice pages, share their ideas, and apply the new skill to their independent writing. Students will have the opportunity to conference with the teacher, and share their stretchy sentences with the group if they choose. We will wrap up with a review of the new skill so students can continue to practice this new writing technique at home.

I am Kelley Pope. Your learners can call me Ms. Kelley. I have a Masters Degree in Education from the University of South Florida, with specializations in general elementary education and exceptional student education. I have been teaching and working with children for 3 decades. I have experience teaching children from pre-school to 12th grade, of varying abilities. I spent the majority of my time in the classroom teaching second and third grade. I have been teaching English online to non-English speakers since 2017, and I am skilled in effective, virtual learning strategies.
Teaching has been my life long passion. I'm an enthusiastic teacher and hope to inspire my students to limitless learning in a positive environment! My interactive classes are engaging, meaningful, and fun. I use multiple strategies to reach and engage different types of learners, making them comfortable and confident in their surroundings to learn and share with ease. I teach through an assortment of oral instruction, demonstrations, slides, activities, games, modeling, discussion, and hands on experiences, ensuring students have every opportunity for engagement and learning. I want each of my students to come away from our classes feeling confident and inspired.
Many of my students greatly benefit from one on one learning to help grow them into confident, happy writers.

A little about me... I am a mom, wife, and teacher. I am a huge animal lover, and have several pets of my own. When I am not teaching, I love to spend time with my family outdoors biking, hiking, enjoying the beach or Disney, and exploring new adventures. Movies and game nights are also family favorites! I have a fondness for reading writing, and crafts, as well. I love meeting new students, connecting with others, and sharing the joy of learning.
