課堂經歷
In this class, we will explore three wonderful works of children's literature: "Make Way for Ducklings" by Robert McCloskey, "Stone Soup" by Marcia Brown, and "The Little House" by Virginia Lee Burton. Class will be begin with a short discussion about the setting of the story, including pictures to enrich the children's background knowledge. For example, when we study "Make Way for Ducklings," I will provide an explanation and pictures of the Swan Boats in the Public Garden so that the children have a deeper understanding of the setting and better appreciate some of the humor in the book. I will then read aloud the story for that day, pausing for questions and discussion. At the end of the class, students will color a picture associated with the story and will be encouraged to share their art with the class. Students should have crayons or markers and be prepared to share their questions and ideas!
學習目標
Students will improve listening skills and ability to discuss and reflect on literature. These quality picture books touch upon several themes which will enrich the student's understanding of the world around them, including geography, the passage of time and seasons, animal habitats, and world cultures.

I am a high school history teacher who is homeschooling four delightfully energetic elementary school kids. In addition to teaching my own children, I teach history, economics, music theory, and choir "in person" at our co-op. I hold a Master's of Education, and spent the bulk of my public school career teaching AP European History, Modern European History, and I developed the curriculum for Rise of the Nation State: Russia for my school district. As a life long "history nerd," I make learning history fun because I love it and I want my students to love it too!
