課堂經歷
Do you love stories and using your imagination? There is inspiration for stories all around us, sometimes hiding in the most unexpected places like a toy, a photograph, or a mysterious object. In this ongoing class, every week, I bring a new item to class for us to use as story inspiration. This might be a toy that can become a story character, a photograph for a story setting, or a mysterious object. We then brainstorm story ideas together. The rest of the class is spent getting started on our stories. Learners can choose to incorporate ideas from our group brainstorming into their story, use their own story idea, or add to a story in progress. New learners are welcome to join at any time. Every class will include: An item to spark story ideas and encourage group brainstorming Time to write independently Opportunities to share work and help when we get stuck The story ideas brainstormed in class are learner-directed. This is designed to get our creative ideas flowing, so we will be ready to write. As learners write, I will check in, providing support as needed. I also encourage learners to share ideas and encourage each other. I find that when children are part of a community of authors/illustrators, they inspire each other to try out new ideas. The goal of this class is to get learners excited to write and to start putting their story down on paper. Depending on how big their story idea is, they might not have time to complete the whole story during class. Learners are welcome to continue their story after class or bring a story back to continue to work on in the next class. If your learner loves to draw and is just starting to turn those drawings into stories, you might want to start with one of my comics classes, such as this one: https://outschool.com/classes/creating-comics-level-1-weekly-workshop-FDCt5rK8?usid=3CuwGyJY&signup=true&utm_campaign=share_activity_link If your learner would like to explore a variety of types of creative and informational writing, check out my Weekly Writing Club: https://outschool.com/classes/weekly-writing-club-OqHpxPrv?usid=3CuwGyJY&signup=true&utm_campaign=share_activity_link
學習目標
The overarching goal of this class is to spark children's excitement for using their current literacy skills in creative and meaningful ways both in class and afterwards. I believe that learning to write is a process that develops gradually with support, time, and authentic opportunities to use their developing skills. The stories each learner writes in this class will depend on their stage of literacy development (they may be drawing, writing words, sentences and/or paragraphs). The class is designed to support the child in their current stage of development and to inspire them to use their current skills in new ways.

I have a Master's degree in early childhood and inclusive education with an emphasis on literacy. My love for creative writing started when I was a child and continues today. I have been an educator for 20 years and am passionate about teaching literacy skills that support a lifelong love of reading and writing. Storytelling and creative writing are some of my favorite ways to support literacy development. I see all children as capable individuals who are motivated to learn when their interests are honored and they are encouraged to make their own discoveries.
