I want to ensure that all families are comfortable with the content of this course. Some historical events and cultural contexts discussed in the course may involve sensitive topics, such as wars, social issues, political controversies and some brief mentions of illegal substances consumed during the prohibition and the hippie and counterculture movements. These sensitive topics are always introduced with care and an emphasis on how such issues shaped the music of the era. For example, the significance of the Harlem Renaissance is discussed in the 1920's music lesson because it fostered the development of jazz, blues, and gospel music. Learners in this course will be utilizing the following COPPA-compliant third-party tools: -Google Forms -Padlet Learners will need to have a Google account to access the weekly homework assignments on Google Forms. Learners have the option of creating a Padlet account but may also respond to prompts without posting their name. This course also uses multimedia elements including YouTube videos and audio excerpts. All multimedia elements used in this course are directly embedded into class presentations, ensuring learners can enjoy directly from the Outschool platform.
