  • 1. Learners will examine historical events, cultural shifts, and political influences that left their mark on the music of the time. 2. Learners will explore the arts and culture of the decade, discovering how film, art, architecture, fashion, and dance contributed to the cultural landscape and influenced musical trends. 3. Learners will understand the background of popular musical genres that emerged during each decade. 4. Learners will understand the musical contributions of significant musical artists and composers of each era. 5. Learners will examine the popular dance styles that defined each decade . 6. Learners will listen to excerpts of chart-topping songs, helping them appreciate iconic songs that defined each era.
Miss Suzanne is a licensed K-12 music teacher with a decade of experience teaching K-6 music in New Jersey’s public schools and as a private lesson teacher. In addition to her classroom experience, Miss Suzanne owns and operates her own music education business providing learning resources and ideas to other music educators.

I want to ensure that all families are comfortable with the content of this course. Some historical events and cultural contexts discussed in the course may involve sensitive topics, such as wars, social issues, political controversies and some brief mentions of illegal substances consumed during the prohibition and the hippie and counterculture movements. These sensitive topics are always introduced with care and an emphasis on how such issues shaped the music of the era. For example, the significance of the Harlem Renaissance is discussed in the 1920's music lesson because it fostered the development of jazz, blues, and gospel music.

-Padlet

Learners will need to have a Google account to access the weekly homework assignments on Google Forms. Learners have the option of creating a Padlet account but may also respond to prompts without posting their name. 

This course also uses multimedia elements including YouTube videos and audio excerpts. All multimedia elements used in this course are directly embedded into class presentations, ensuring learners can enjoy directly from the Outschool platform.
