What is the course content?
NOTE: This is pre-recorded version of Mastering Pre-Algebra to Algebra class taken
                         by over  3000 students. Fresh, extended content.

There will be a total  of  10 uploaded videos averaging a length of approximately   17 minutes each. Every video is a different lesson. There is a description for each video  in the syllabus.                       
Each recorded video comes with two assignments and a self test.
The solutions for the assignments and the self test are included, along with instructions on how to grade the self test.

                                       
                                   How is the class structured?

Each video is a new lesson, after viewing the lesson the student should attempt do the first assignment,check the answers and if additional practice is needed ,review the recording additional times.

Then do the second assignment which is preparation for the self test.
When feeling ready the self test should be taken and graded. 

A grade of 70% is considered passing. 

If the student is not satisfied with the grade further study is recommended ( re-watch the recording, re-do assignments and retest until a satisfactory grade is achieved)

                                    How is the class taught?

This class is taught just like I teach my live classes.

 I will show students how to do an exercise on the white board.

 They will learn  by actually doing example exercises during class. 

Students can stop the recording at any time and test themselves. 

I repeat several exercises and  explain in detail.

 Learners can check their answers as the solutions are provided.

I encourage all participants to try as many exercises as possible. 

Each class has an upload of a self test along with the solutions. 

There are also instructions on how to grade the self tests.

                           How much will learners get to interact with you?

 Since this is a recorded lecture, not a live class.
 Teacher student interaction will be available for 30 minutes once a week for the 10 weeks of    the course. These 30 minutes are considered teacher's office hours.
Communication can be done via the Outschool messaging system.

 Note: The office hours are not mandatory to attend, most students learn from the recordings. 
            Students who have taken my live classes, and had to watch the recordings because                                they missed a live class,have reported learning from the recordings.

                           What is your teaching style?

     I show several examples with plenty of detail and explanation.
     Then I ask the student to try some exercises, in order to get exposure.
     I check answers for accuracy, correct mistakes , if any, and ask
     to try again until the student feels comfortable, and then we continue.

Adding and Subtracting Integers
 In this 20 minute video your child will learn how to add and subtract positive and negative numbers in a unique and effective way.
I work plenty of examples with detailed explanations.

By applying two simple rules your child will be ready to do the  2 assigned worksheets which will be sufficient practice to take the self test provided with each lesson.

 The solutions to the homework and self test are provided along with detailed instructions on how to grade each particular test.

 In this 15 minute video your child will learn how to multiply and divide positive and negative numbers in a unique and effective way.

 In this 14 minute video your child will learn how to apply the concepts learned in lessons 1 and 2.

This particular class will help solidify and demystify number operations with negative and positive numbers.

The Distributive Property
 In this 13 minute video your child will learn how to apply the concept of the distributive property.
Learning how to multiply using parentheses is an essential skill in mastering algebra.          Example : -6(x -7) becomes -6x + 42

Your child will be ready for the 2 assigned worksheets which will be sufficient practice to take the self test.

Hello everyone! I am Mr. Millan!

A little about me:

I obtained a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from the University of Houston, where I found my passion for the vast field of mathematics. I worked as an engineer for HNU Systems, an environmental company based in Boston, where I not only excelled in my craft, but was asked to train personnel in industrial, academic and corporate settings.

However, something felt missing in my career. I began tutoring mathematics to people from all walks of life and found that I could combine my two passions: mathematics and my newfound love for teaching. As a result, I obtained an Educator Certificate from the Miami Dade County Public School System, and officially began tutoring full-time in 1995.

I realized this profession was my true calling in life when one of my very first clients, a prospective PhD student, told me I was a natural at teaching. This was the first of hundreds more praises of my teaching style and effectiveness.

Many people believe that they cannot learn math. However, I challenge that opinion every day. Everyone can learn the beautiful language that is mathematics. I have cultivated an eclectic but very effective form of teaching that has proven applicable to every one of my clients, from children to college students, and even teachers and professors. My students often tell me that I make math look and feel easy and doable, and they are able to grasp the concepts very quickly.

My 30+ years of teaching experience has been a rewarding experience. I have worked with all kinds of students, even those needing special accommodations. I have had the opportunity to connect with each one of my students and boost their confidence, not only in math, but in all academic endeavors. Mathematics becomes manageable, fun, and accessible to all my students!
