In this ongoing class, your child will be taught everything necessary to be a successful second grader.  Some of the many sills taught include, how to use capital letters correctly,  Use and understand contractions., Write stories with a beginning, middle and end, Be able to do basic research from a non-fiction book. English skills (writing, reading, comprehension, and various grammar skills.)  Math (addition, subtraction, regrouping, borrowing, geometry, fractions, skip counting, place value, and even how to count currency.) Science (solar system, animal facts, weather, seasons, earth facts), Social Studies (places all over the world, cultures),  Music (through song and movement we will learn songs and practice what we learn.) History (Learn about fun historical facts and what helped to make our world today. 
-This class is offered all year and children may start and pause whenever it's convenient for you.  
-Every child learns differently and different techniques will be incorporated to accommodate each learning style.  -We will begin each class with a fun song, calendar, and weather.  Then we will move right along into the lesson of the day.  
-If someone has a birthday and they would like to tell us, then we will sing "Happy Birthday" to them that day. 
-I ask that they have something to write with each day so they are able to practice writing letters, numbers, and drawing.
-Art is also an integral part of learning.  So we will be looking at the pictures in the story to discuss what we see and talk about the different colors and artistic elements. 
-Every Friday will be our "Show and Tell" Day.  This is where students are able to bring anything they want to share with the others at the end of class.   This can be a toy, a favorite pet, a drawing, etc.  This will allow each child to shine in their own way and share what they want.  If they don't want to participate in "Show and Tell" that's okay.  This is optional.  
-At the end of class each day, we will sing a song that helps children end their class time in a happy and fun way.  We also play games as much as we can to make learning extra fun!
--Each day after class,  I will send an activity sheets to parents to print out for their child. This includes but not limited to: math worksheets, handwriting practice, sight words, coloring pages, science worksheets, song lists, and short stories.  
Each day we will cover a lesson in at least two topics.
Some days it might be English and Math and other days it might be Science and Music.  

A typical breakdown will be:
Mondays: English and Math
Tuesdays: Science and Music
Wednesdays: Geography and History
Thursdays: Story Telling and Comprehension
Fridays: A mixture and recap of the week's lessons along with "Show and Tell" at the end of class. 

Week one: August 21st
Reading: Syllabication
Math:  Geometry of two- and three-dimensional shapes.
Science: Plant Life
Social Studies: The 7 continents and facts about North America.  (We will be looking at a world map and practicing memorization of each continent.)

Week two: August 28th
Reading: Comprehension of a story and the setting.
Math: Time and Money
Science: Properties of Matter
Social Studies: What are the 50 states in North America?

Week three: September 4th
Reading: Identifying correct sentence structure
Math: Measurement
Science: Ecosystems
Social Studies: Learn about Asia

Week four: September 11th
Reading: Reading Comprehension and Vocabulary
Math: Picture and Bar Graphs
Science: What is Gravity?
Social Studies: Learn about Africa

Some session topics will be dictated weekly due to current events/happenings.   
In this class, your child will learn the skills needed to enter the First Grade!  We will have "Show and Tell" every Friday. This class meets 5 times a week at the same time each day to help jumpstart your learner for a lifetime of learning.
