Class Experience

Beginner Level
Each week we will create a new project or game while discussing important foundational concepts to make your projects come alive. Projects may include art, music, animation, and much more! Learners are welcome to join at any time. Learners age 7 may enroll but likely would benefit from a parent nearby if possible. Learners age 10 may enroll in this weekly class or my other weekly class designed for ages 10-13. We cover mostly the same material but might move at a slightly quicker speed as the class allows.

A computer desktop or laptop is preferred for coding. Tablets and iPads don't always work properly with some of the games on Scratch. The device used for coding must have a keyboard. It is preferred that learners have a second monitor to view the instructor's screen shared through Outschool's Zoom. If that is not an option, resizing the Scratch window alongside Zoom will allow you to view both windows.

**Students need to create a free, online Scratch account before meeting. A parent will need to confirm this account for the learner to be able to save their project.

I have worked as an educator for over 27 years. I have taught learners from age 3 through age 16 in a variety of settings including public school, preschool, technology enrichment programs, computer coding classes, and robotics STEM camps. As a small farmer owner, I educate youth in homesteading and animal care. I have 2 amazing children with very different interests. My oldest is academically gifted. She is very in involved in art and music and currently following an educational path to become a veterinarian. My youngest is 2e. He is academically gifted and dyslexic. He is an athlete heavily involved in STEM, following an educational path to become a physicist. I originally came to the Outschool platform to search for classes for my kiddos. I was so impressed that I joined as an educator.

I have a Bachelor Degree in Elementary Education grades 1-6 and Master Degree in Educational Technology and Research. I have been licensed to teach in Florida and North Carolina. I obtained additional certifications in teaching Gifted and Talented Students for grades K-12, Technology Endorsement grades K-12, and School Library Media Specialist grades K-12.

My teaching philosophy encompasses all learning styles. Classes will include time to explore content and practice application.
